Aviation is a world where a lot of money are involved, therefore it becomes a favorable environment for scammers and thieves and sometimes their action have resulted in significant financial damage.

The solution is to be "on guard" all the time and learn how to identify scam signs.

• Price is to good to be true. Of course there could exist some exceptions. For example some people could be in a bad moment and they really need money fast, so are ready to ask for a smaller sum than normal for their item.

  But, if we post a complete brand new Rotax 914 for 6.000 EUR, would you believe us?

• The identification marks in the images are hidden. In this case images provided could be downloaded from the internet, even from the other marketplace. If someone really has something for sale, why would they try to hide something?
• The seller doesn't know what he's selling. For example, the ad refers to a Tecnam P92, and in the pictures appears a Cessna C152 or seller doesn't know how to answer any question.
• The seller asks you desperate for a money transfer to hold the item for you. It is usually based on the fact that the price is good, and you do not want to lose the offer.

If you are in doubt, ask for proof! Do not hesitate to ask for more details and photos regarding the item you are going to buy. It's your right. Ask the seller to send you a photo from the angle you specify, or a video (walking around aircraft for example). If he is a scammer, you will never get an answer again.

• The buyer is ready to negotiate with you at the last euro to tell you later (if you have agreed to an amount) that he intend to buy it for a customer and he will told the customer a bigger amount to pay to you, the difference being his earnings which he will ask you to send him.
• The buyer asks you for a few more details and after your response, he tells you that you seem to be a good person, and want to invest in your country or in your company.
• The buyer ask you to give them your full address to come directly to you. Better is to give them a common address - a supermarket, a gas station or something similliar and meet the buyer there if he really shows up.
• The buyer agrees to send you a cheque for the value of your item.
• Paypal scams. First of all, you need to know that paypal transactions are instantaneous. There are common scams when you recive a fake confirmation about payments to your account and you need to login immediately via "button below". This button will redirect you on fake Paypal page where if you insert your datas, scammers will stole it and will use your account for payments and withdrawals. Every time you need to check the email address from which you received the notification and if page URL is correct.

Do not give details about yourself which can be used against you, just give details about what you sell, and if the object is such that it needs to be sent, do not send it until you receive money.

Certainly there are many more methods, because the human mind has no limits, especially of these scammers who live from this and their minds are focused only in this direction.

Sometimes a useful trick to spot a scammer is to copy "buyer" or "seller" email address or phone number into google search, which will reveal if that email address or phone number is connected to suspicios activities also on other sites.

Scammers target any website or publication where people sell and buy items. Unfortunatelly, there is no way for us to prevent them from our website. We could just delete the advert and it's seller account following a report or if we consider it a scam.
